FAQ's - yarn sizes
We process yarns in various weights and sizes. There are several ways to measure yarn just ask a random sample of users, they will all give you a different answer ! To help you decide here is a scale that we utilize at Cottage Criation Fiber Mill.

WPI or Wraps Per Inch. This is determined by wrapping the yarn around a ruler without overlapping the strands.

FINGER WEIGHT: averages 19 to 22 WPI. typically yields 1800 to 2200 yards per pound.

SPORT WEIGHT: The most popular of yarn. averages 14 to 19 WPI. typically yields 1200 to 1700yards per pound.

BULKY WEIGHT: 2nd most popular yarn, averages 6 to 8 WPI. typically yields 500 to 800 yards per pound

Yarns can be skeined or wrapped on the cone.

Skeins are washed as a final step in processing. This removes any oils or dirt picked up during processing.

Cones of yarn can not be washed. We can add wax to your yarn should you wish to use the yarn with a knitting machine.
